Taj Mahal

Travel Monitor India
A poet once described this enchanting monument as "A teardrop of love, frozen in marble on the cheek of Eternity." Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal (Exalted one of the Palace), after her death in 1631, this exquisite tomb is recognized the world over for its aesthetic perfection and is considered a symbol of eternal love.
Situated near the banks of the River Yamuna, in Agra, this white marble mausoleum is set like a jewel amidst the serene ambience of a formal garden. Its green lawns and waterways lead to a raised platform on which the tomb rests. The refined elegance of the artistic pietra dura work of inlaid designs on the marble walls, the large onion-shaped dome and its surrounding symmetrical minarets represents the pinnacle of Islamic architecture in India.
Couples from all over the world come to have their pictures taken before this romantic building. Viewing the Taj on a moonlit night is believed to be one of the most beautiful sights in the world. Share the experience of falling in love…with the Taj Mahal.

Agra Fort
The fort's colossal double walls rise 20 meters in height and measure 2.5 kilometers in circumference. Typical of forts of Mogul era, Agra Fort is surrounded by a moat. The fort looks intimidating because of its lofty battlements that overlook the far stretching mansions of nobles and princes built along the riverfront. Another important and very significant structure is the dominating gateway that is surrounded by the magnificent towers, bastions and ramparts. The fort contains some of the most magnificent and subtle palaces both in red sandstone and white marble that has been built by two generations of prolific builders; Akbar and later on by Jahangir and Shah Jahan.

Itmad-ud-daula Tomb
Itmad-ud-daula has a special place in the chronicles of both history as well as architecture. This is precisely because Itmad ud Daula is the very first tomb in India that is entirely made out of Marble. This is actually a mausoleum that overlooks the River Yamuna and is a tomb of Mir Ghiyas Beg, a minister in the court of Shah Jahan.

Chini ka Rauza
Chini-ka-Rauza is considered a milestone in Indo-Persian architecture, as it is the very first building in India that has been exclusively decorated by the glazed tile works. The decoration is prominent on façade and exteriors. Chini-ka-Rauza is actually a small mausoleum that overlooks the River Yamuna. The tomb is a fine architectural example of pure and undiluted Persian architecture

Mehtab Bagh
350 years ago, when the Taj was built on the Yamuna's south bank, a moonlight garden called Mehtab Bagh was also laid just across the river. It was laid alongside the northern waterfront. The place was once an oasis with fragrant flowers, shaded pavilions, fountain jets and reflecting pools but it ceased to exist in the due course of history. Slowly, the site became barren.

Travel Monitor IndiaJama Masjid: Jama Masjid is a large mosque built in 1648. The architectural specialty of Jama Masjid is its unusual dome and absence of minarets.

Rambagh Gardens: Inspired by the Persians love for Gardens Babur-the founder of the Mughal emperor built it as a haven of pleasure and comfort. Nur Jahan, wife of Jahangir added to the decoration of the garden. The Rambagh Gardens is also known as the Bagh-i-Gul Afshan. The main attractions of the gardens are the structure in charbagh pattern, with four main divisions made by paths and waterways. Water from the Yamuna flows in cascades. Fountains, an island platform, stairway on one side of the water channel and two pavilions on either side of the main water channel are other attractions of the Rambagh Gardens Agra.

Dayalbagh Gardens: It is a pilgrimage and tourist site in India. The memorial of Shiv Dayal Sahib the founder of the Radhasoami Satsang movement, who started this religious organization in 1861, is located in Dayalbagh, Agra. The structure has fine pietra dura inlay work. The building is being refurbished every year.

Dayal Bagh: is famous for its textiles, Durri-works, leather goods and artistic small marble items or products. Now a day, this religious sect has got a division-having three branches Dayal Bagh, Swami Bagh and Hazuri Bhawan, (Pipal Mandi) branch, having all separate 'Gurus' as their religious heads. But some of their functions are common (like Bhandara of Radha Swami Maharaj), having common ideal logics of religion.

Overnight stay at hotel.

The magnificent palaces and buildings of this abandoned city stand today as a testimony to the power of nature over the most grandiose dreams of a mighty Emperor. The city is located at a distance of 40 km from Agra.
